To All VLT Members
During the January VLT, I introduced a number of the following points. I'm summarizing it for the benefit of those that were not there and as a reminder to those of you who were.
1. We began by talking about our mission statement: "We are a people who continue the work of Jesus Christ in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit."
2. We stated that we're also a community of hope - a people of the presence and power of God to connect the hurting world to Jesus.
3. When these 2 are combined, we see that we are both an army continuing to work and a family which is represented as a community of hope.
4. Then I stated that we need to think about our church as 3 interlocking spheres. These are Community, Cause, and Corporation.
5. In regard to community, I think we need the most work here. We need to make sure people that come feel loved, included, and that they are a vital part of us.
6. In order to help us with the community aspect, I gave several simple things that would work well. I will describe in the following points.
7. I suggested we ask 3 questions when we meet new people.
* Hello, my name is . What's yours?
* How long have you been attending?
* (If new) Are you looking for a new church home?
* (If over 1 month in attendance) Have you found a small group?
8. Please wear nametags - we need to know one another.
9. We're instituting the 3 minute rule for all leadership people.
* This means that you do not talk to anyone you already know for the first 3 minutes after service.
* Talk to your friends after that.
* Anyone on the ministry team is excluded from the 3 minute rule.
10. Remember to invite your relatives, friends, neighbors, workmates, etc.
* Be praying for 5 friends.
* Invite, invest, include.
11. The cause has to do with the army aspect. I believe we've seen substantial increase in our flowing with the Spirit in the last 6 months or so.
12. Jesus is still challenging us to continue our 10 x 10 x 10 vision. We want to fill Central IL with multi-sites, continue to plant churches, and to send out missionaries.
13. We've each been challenged to grow through our eat, pray, love, give series.
* Take the lead in getting excited about the series.
* Be a model of hunger in word and prayer.
* Let your love show in all things.
* Giving is expected of us as leaders. Help others to grow up to the tithing level by sharing how it has changed your life.
14. Corporation - this is the administration aspect.
15. The corporation part of the church "administers" so that the membership can "minister."
16. Dennis Starkey has been appointed Executive Pastor. He will oversee all pastors and multi-sites.
17. Yu-Yu Lee who heads up our China/Taiwan Mission Partnership is heading with her husband for a 1 year sabbatical in China.
